Advisors' Opinion:
  • [By Roberto Pedone]

Amarin (AMRN) is a biopharmaceutical company that commercializes and develops therapeutics to improve cardiovascular health. This stock closed up 6% to $5.62 in Tuesday's trading session.

    Tuesday's Range: $5.39-$5.70

    52-Week Range: $5.12-$14.97

    Tuesday's Volume: 9.30 million

    Three-Month Average Volume: 3.74 million

Shares of AMRN ripped higher on Tuesday after H.C. Wainwright upgraded the stock.

From a technical perspective, AMRN gapped up sharply here and broke out above some near-term overhead resistance at $5.59 with monster upside volume. This stock has been downtrending badly for the last six months, with shares dropping from over $8 to its recent low of $5.12. During that move, shares of AMRN have been consistently making lower highs and lower lows, which is bearish technical price action. That said, shares of AMRN have now started to rebound off that $5.12 low and are quickly moving within range of triggering a major breakout trade. That trade will hit if AMRN manages to take out some near-term overhead resistance levels at $5.74 to its 50-day at $5.88 and then once it takes out more resistance at $6.20 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in AMRN as long as it's trending above some key near-term support levels at $5.13 to $5.12, and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 3.74 million shares. If that breakout hits soon, then AMRN will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $7.17 to $7.30. Any high-volume move above those levels will then put $8 to $8.50 within range for shares of AMRN.

Another stock that looks poised to trigger a major breakout trade is Amarin (AMRN), a biopharmaceutical company that commercializes and develops therapeutics to improve cardiovascular health. This stock has been under pressure by the bears so far in 2013, with shares off sharply by 26%.

If you take a look at the chart for Amarin, you'll notice that this stock has been downtrending badly for the last six months, with shares dropping from over $9 to its recent low of $5.12 a share. During that downtrend, shares of AMRN have been consistently making lower highs and lower lows, which is bearish technical price action. That said, shares of AMRN have now formed a double bottom chart pattern $5.12 to $5.13 a share and are starting to trend back above its 50-day moving average of $5.82 a share. That move is quickly pushing shares of AMRN within range of triggering a major breakout trade.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in AMRN if it manages to break out above some near-term overhead resistance at $6.20 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that hits near or above its three-month average action 3.77 million shares. If that breakout hits soon, then AMRN will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $7.17 to $7.30 a share. Any high-volume move above those levels will then put $8 to $8.50 within range for shares of AMRN.

Traders can look to buy AMRN off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support levels at $5.13 to $5.12 a share. One could also buy AMRN off strength once it takes out those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

This stock is another favorite target of the bears, since the current short interest as a percentage of the float for AMRN is very high at 17.4%. This stock could easily

  • [By Caiman Valores]

The recent surge in oil prices has renewed investor interest in the small-cap oil and gas E&P sector. One company that stands out for all the right reasons is Canadian domiciled small-cap, Whitecap Resources (SPGYF.PK). Since 2009 the company has unlocked considerable value for investors through a range of acquisitions as well as development and exploration projects. This has seen its share price surge in value to be up by almost 53% over the last year alone. However, it is clear that the market has yet to fully recognize the true value of Whitecap and there is still considerable upside potential of over 30% for investors. This along with Whitecap's dividend growth strategy makes it a particularly appealing deep-value investment in the oil and gas E&P sector.
